What is Forgiveness?

When Catalyst for Peace first began engaging with the concept of forgiveness, our work led us to Sierra Leone, where ordinary people where taking up the extraordinary task of building a sustainable peace after the terrible civil war. We chose to walk alongside the people of Sierra Leone on their journey towards peace. The stories of forgiveness we have witnessed, documented and shared in Sierra Leone have inspired the creation of Fambul Tok International and Fambul Tok: The Film.

Fambul Tok: The Film gives its audience a seat at the bonfire where crimes are confessed and forgiveness is asked for—and given. We hope this privileged opportunity to experience a community drawing on their cultural heritage and determination to be whole again to craft a lasting and sustainable peace will move audiences to reconsider what it means to forgive.

To be a part of the community taking up the issues and possibilities raised by the film and to share your own stories of forgiveness, visit the Journal page of Fambul Tok: The Film.
